Oyo 2023: Makinde, Folarin Shun ICCI Gubernatorial Debates
The incumbent and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and his All progressives Congress ( APC) counterpart, Sen. Teslim Folarin have shunned the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) gubernatorial debate in Oyo State.
The debate which was held at the Functions Hall, Jogor Event Centre, Liberty Road Ibadan, the state capital being organised by the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to allow the candidates to tell the good people of Oyo State about their manifesto.
The gubernatorial election is billed to take place on Saturday 11 March,2023 in all the 33 local government areas in the state.
The debate which had attracted politicians, party leaders and other stakeholders was attended by five out of fourteen candidates justling to take power from the incumbent governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Those in attendance were the candidates of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Akim Yusuf, Social Democratic Party (SDP) Michael Folorunsho Lana, New Nigeria peoples Party (NNPP) Engr. Joshua Olukayode Popoola, Labour Party ( LP) Hon. Taofeek Adewale and chief Adebayo Adelabu, candidate of the Accord Party (AP).
The President-General Omo Ajorosun Club Ibadan, Alhaji Abiola Abdulahi Alli while addressing the participants during the interactive section with the gubernatorial candidates, tasked the audience to maintain decorum with a charge that the intention of the interactive session was to let the candidates tell the people about their aspirations.
Alli while speaking warned that the platform was not a political gathering rather an atmosphere to engaging gubernatorial candidates and the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) with other members of the organized Private Sector in Oyo State on a round table discussion.
Chairman of the occasion and president of the ICCI, Mr. Bamidele Johnson who is also the chairman of BOVAS oil and Gas urged the candidates not to forget their promises if they get to the position and that the hope of the masses rest on them.
While urging them to avoid vulgar and abusive words that can disrupt the major reason for putting the programme together also told the contestants to see the state as their project which must be taken to the desired level of development.
