2023 Election: Oyo REC Secures Cash From CBN To Conduct Poll ...REC
The resident electoral commissioner REC in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Tella has disclosed that the Commission has secured cash from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to conduct an itch free elections in Oyo State.
Bearly four days to the Presidential/National Assembly elections, the Oyo state Resident Electoral Commissioner ( REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed this while featuring on the NUJ Correspondents Chapel's guest platform tagged "Speak Out"
To buttress the readiness of the Commission to conduct the election in view of the cash crisis, the Resident Electoral Commissioner disclosed that the Commission has secured provision of needed cash from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ease movement of electoral materials and other logistics to various polling units across the state.
He disclosed that a total of 2,305,903 electorates are expected to vote in the forthcoming general elections in Oyo State.
INEC noted that the eligible voters will vote in the 6,390 polling units spread across all 33 local government areas in the state.
Tella noted that a total of 2,305,903 permanent voter cards have been collected, giving the estimate of 2,305,903 voters.
He informed that a total of 760,766 PVCs are yet to be collected .
Tella said the commission was ready to conduct a free, fair, credible and acceptable election this 2023.
He called on all eligible voters to come out en mass and vote for candidates of their choice during the elections and charged stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the state.
Tella said, “I have the opportunity to tell you the level of our preparedness. The level of our preparedness has reached an advanced state in all stages. This is also an opportunity for us to again come out and talk to you.
” Total number of polling units 6,390. Registered voters in Oyo state: 3,276,675.
“CVR update: Total PVCs collected: 2,305,903. Total PVCs uncollected: 760,766.
“As long as you have your PVC, come out to vote during the elections. So, we are trying to put our heads together”.
He however disclosed that all the adhoc staff needed for the conduct of acceptable elections in the State had received intensive training while adding that the synergy and cooperation between the security operatives in the State will be an added advantage to prevent cross border hoodlums to perpetuate illegal acts during the election.
The 2023 general elections have been slated to hold on Saturday, 25th February and Saturday, 11th March 2023 across the federation, the Resident Electoral Commissioner stated.
